Objective To evaluate the vaccination rate of the varicella attenuated live vaccine (VarV) second dose (VarV 2) among eligible children in China. Methods A search was performed for VarV 2 vaccination rate related studies published in CNKI, China Biology Medicine, VIP, PubMed and Web of Science electronic databases from January 2013 to May 2022. Meta-analysis of VarV 2 vaccination rate was performed using Stata 15.0 software. Results A total of 3 352 literatures were retrieved, of which 19 were included in this Meta-analysis. The pooled results showed that the VarV 2 vaccination rate of eligible children in China is 55.3% (95% confidence interval: 48.4%-62.2%, I2=100%). The VarV 2 vaccination rate of local children was higher than that of non-local children, and the VarV 2 vaccination rates varied little among children of different sexes. Sensitivity analysis demonstrated that the VarV 2 vaccination rate ranged from 53.5% to 57.1%, and the results of publication bias were negative. Conclusion The VarV 2 vaccination rate in China is at a low level at present. It is recommended to implement the VarV two-dose vaccination strategy in a timely manner. Provinces that have implemented the two-dose vaccination strategy should take targeted measures to improve the vaccination coverage.
