Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is ubiquitous in various populations, and is the most common cause of congenital viral infection . During the last decade, enormous progress has been made in development of HCMV vaccines. This article summaries the current state of clinical trials and preclinical development of HCMV vaccines, with an emphasis on studies of HCMV vaccines and biology that have been conducted in the past 5 years.
